2019 Holiday Driving Safety Tips

We are just about a week away from Thanksgiving. Not only is this one of the busiest times of the year, but it also means that there will be more drivers than usual on the road. A few Charlie Clark Nissan product experts used some of their precious little free time to compile this list of 2019 Holiday driving safety tips. In not unrelated news, most new Nissan vehicles come with the automaker’s latest active safety systems as standard equipment or, at least, make it available as an option. While these features are outstanding, there are a few other things that drivers can do to keep everyone safe while they’re traveling during this busy time of the year. Let’s take a look at what they found.

Child Car Seat Checklist

Vehicles are designed for adults. That’s just how it works. When people are traveling with children, using a car seat is just a no-brainer. Before you take off for Grandma’s house, make sure your kid’s car seat is ready to go. This checklist will be helpful.

Expiration Date — All car seats come with an expiration date. Most seats are good for about five years from the date they are manufactured. Government regulations say that the expiration date must be printed or stamped on the bottom of the seat’s base.

1-inch Rule — A car seat is that is properly installed should not move more than 1-inch in any direction. If there is too much slack, adjust the straps accordingly.

In A Pinch — When your child is wearing the seat’s harness, check the straps by performing the pinch test. You can tell the harness is tight enough if your fingers slide off without pulling up any webbing when you pinch them.

When you’re on the road

Getting stuck in traffic is inconvenient at best. Be sure to pay attention to peak travel times when you’re leaving. Most Nissan vehicles are compatible with both Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ which will feature apps that can help you keep an eye on traffic conditions. Additionally, distracted driving is always a concern for people on the road. But with more drivers heading places, this danger is only going to increase during the holidays. Put your phone down and make sure all distractions in the vehicle are kept to a minimum as much as possible.
