What is different for the 2020 Nissan LEAF?

Nissan is leading the global automotive industry on several fronts. One area where the automaker is out in front of the competition is in the development of its electrified vehicles. According to Nissan, the LEAF is the best-selling electric vehicle of all time with more than 440,000 units sold around the world. For the new model year, the 2020 model is going to be in a position to take that success to the next level. So, what is different for the 2020 Nissan LEAF? Primarily, the new 2020 LEAF will be joining the rest of the Nissan model year in offering the manufacturer’s active safety system as standard equipment, in addition to making more trims available with the latest connectivity gear. Let’s take a look at what Charlie Clark Nissan customers can expect to see.

Buyers will be able to choose among five trim grades of the 2020 Nissan LEAF, S, SV, S PLUS, SV PLUS and SL PLUS. The S and SV models have a 40-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery that can produce 147 horsepower and provide the drive with about 150 miles of driving range. Versions of the electric hatchback with the PLUS designation use a 62-kilowatt-hour batter of the same type. These models will make more than 200 horsepower and have a range of more than 225 miles – all without using a single drop of gasoline.

Electric vehicles don’t make sounds like normal cars. Nissan will be releasing the 2020 LEAF in the United States with two distinct sound profiles. It will produce what is known inside the company as ‘Canto’, a Latin term for, ‘I sing,’ at low speeds when the vehicle is likely to be sharing the environment with pedestrians. The 2020 Nissan LEAF will also produce a pulsing chime sound when going in reverse.

Connectivity and Safety Technology

Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ have become standard equipment on the S and SV models of the 2020 LEAF. These features will be controlled through an 8-inch color touchscreen interface. Additionally, the 2020 LEAF will be equipped with Nissan Safety Shield® 360 that will include Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Warning and Rear Automatic Braking.
