Is Nissan Frontier ever going to be upgraded?

The Nissan Frontier has carved out an interesting niche in the midsize pickup truck market. Over the years, it has become a favorite among people who like to go off-roading. Admittedly, the platform is getting a little long in the tooth and it’s lacking much of the technological upgrades that have become standard equipment in many other Nissan models. If you’ve been wondering about this while also asking yourself, ‘Is the Nissan Frontier ever going to be upgraded,’ you have really found something special today. One of our product experts stumbled upon an article on leading automotive website, Autoblog that teases the possibility of a vastly different Frontier being for sale for the 2021 model year.

What is going to be different?

According to the insightful article written by Zac Palmer, the 2021 Nissan Frontier will be a clean-sheet redesign. That means starting with a brand-new chassis that may be based on a modified version of the frame used by the full-size Titan pickup truck.

The exterior of the 2021 Frontier is also reported to be getting a major facelift that will employ a more squared-off and bold aesthetic.

New Performance Specs

Nissan has been using the same powertrains in the Frontier midsize pickup truck for a long time. The 2.5-liter, four-cylinder and V-6 engines have been paired with a five-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission. Engine technology has changed a lot and now offers more power and capability while also being more efficient.

Palmer’s article makes a reference to the 2021 Frontier using a fairly new 3.8-liter, V-6 engine that will probably be attached to a nine-speed automatic transmission and will produce 300 horsepower. Palmer also teases the idea of a V-8 version of the 2021 Frontier coming to market, but that seems unlikely beyond being a concept platform.

If Nissan is going to make a major announcement like this, it could come as soon as next month at the Chicago Auto Show. We’ll be watching for updates and bring them to as soon as we can. Stop by the Charlie Clark Nissan showroom to see what we have for sale or lease right now.
